Making it My Own

My ultimate goal is to have all elements of this game except music to be created by me or pulled from the creative commons stash. This week I set out to create my own character sprites and animations. This was no small feat, as it had been almost a decade since the last time I drew for non-academic purposes. After looking up a few art theory videos and sketching out a character, I had to learn how to use Krita, so that I can efficiently make sprites and animations.
It was quite tiresome, but very fun. After 5 days I had fully replaced all sprites used from the "Pixel Art Medieval Fantasy Characters Pack" and could finally call a character mine. With this character in place, the Jazz theme is beginning to come together. I don't intend to create another character in full for a couple weeks at least, but more will eventually come. I need to use this character to balance moves, test movement, and develop the all-important AI.
Let me know what you think about the character. His design is inspired by Patrick Bartley, a very talented modern Jazz musician.
